Air Travel Restarts at Scotland's Busiest Airport In the Wake of Major Air Traffic Control Outage
Flight operations have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport following a significant air traffic control outage brought the international hub to a standstill.
Every arrival and departure were suspended due to an technical fault that arose around 08:30.
A number of travelers reported being stuck in jets at the stand as the outage continued.
Operations Restart with Continued Disruption
A statement indicated at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "patience and understanding".
However, significant disruption are expected to affect schedules. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with numerous other services experiencing delays.
An airport representative had earlier anticipated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be affected.
"Flyers are asked to check directly with their airline for the most up-to-date details on their specific flights," the statement added.
Source of the Issue
The airport attributed the operational halt to an systems failure with its control tower systems vendor.
Travelers should still plan to verify the schedule of their trip before departing to the hub as residual delays are worked through.
