Jennifer Lawrence Expresses Discussing Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ That’s Ripping the Country Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she believes it's no longer appropriate to comment publicly countering the Trump presidency, worried it could exacerbate divisive discussions and increase separation throughout the country.
‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Says Lawrence
In a recent interview, she commented, “When Trump was first in office, I believed I was acting frantically without clear direction. But as we’ve learned, election after election, celebrities do not make a difference at all on who people vote for.”
Lawrence added, “So then what am I doing? I’m just expressing personal views on an issue that’s going to add fuel to a fire tearing the nation apart.”
Political Evolution
Lawrence has admitted freely about backing Republican and Democratic candidates in past elections. Brought up by conservative Republicans in her home state, she supported John McCain in 2008 before joining the Democrats and explaining she realized during the Obama era that backing conservatives was opposing her individual liberties as a woman.
Past Statements
In 2015, she commented that a Trump victory would be “a catastrophic event” and backed Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race. In the latest campaign, she lent her support to the Democratic nominee, “as I think she’s an excellent choice and I trust that she will take all necessary steps to safeguard women’s health rights.”
Hollywood’s Stance
Jennifer Lawrence was joined by numerous celebrities in her opposition to the former president as a presidential contender, but the limited influence celebrities have over the public choices was underscored by Trump’s victory.
“Another four years appears changed,” noted the actress about Trump’s presidency. “As he made his plans clear. We understood his record for his first term. He was explicit. And that’s the option selected.”
New Release
Lawrence is discussing the drama, director Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she portrays a recent parent who faces challenges with her emotional state in a remote area. Speaking at a press conference for the movie in Venice, the star commented on the situation in the Middle East: “I feel fear. It’s horrifying. What’s taking place is no less than a genocide and it’s horrible.”
Additional Thoughts
The actress elaborated by saying that she was saddened by “the hostility in the discussions of American politics currently and how that is going to be accepted to the younger generation right now. It’s going to be typical to them that politicians lie.”
Lawrence attempted to refocus frustration about the issue to decision-makers rather than entertainers. “Concentrate on the people in charge,” she remarked, in what many took to be a reference to the declaration supported by numerous entertainment industry figures to refuse engagement with specific industry bodies.
Personal Connections
The actor, who earned critical acclaim aged 22 for her part in her breakout movie, is receiving praise for her portrayal in her latest project. Although Lynne Ramsay has denied the narrative being understood as one of maternal mental health issues and psychosis, the actress revealed that she did relate to parts of her role’s experience after the birth of her new baby, not long after filming concluded.
“It was fear regarding my baby,” she commented, “just picturing every potential danger, and then questioning everything that I was attempting. I was receiving counseling, but I got on a drug called Zurzuvae and I continued it for a short period and it made a difference.”
Film Challenges
The actor also mentioned regarding the freeing requirement of filming without clothes in the project while she was expecting and limited physically.
“It’s refreshing,” she said, regarding the need to set aside self-consciousness. “I mean, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between myself and a sex worker? But it isn’t a major concern.”
